German AFNET offers new internet presence in English13.12.2013 - (idw) Kompetenznetz Vorhofflimmern
The website of the German Competence Network on Atrial Fibrillation (AFNET) underwent a relaunch in content and design.
The German Competence Network on Atrial Fibrillation (AFNET) started as a national research alliance over 10 years ago today operates more and more internationally. Pan-European large-scale projects like the EAST trial and periodical consensus conferences in cooperation with the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) are examples of international activities. In order to address scientists, cooperation partners and interested public in Europe and beyond, the new website is largely available in English as well.
The section AFNET presents the network, its committees and cooperation partners. Under the headline Atrial Fibrillation patients and their families will find information about the heart rhythm disorder atrial fibrillation (AF) and its treatment options. As the AFNET patient information web pages are available in German only, detailed information for patients in English is provided by a link to the patient website of the European Heart rhythm Association (EHRA) http://www.afibmatters.org.
The section Research informs about clinical trials, registries, and other research projects of the AFNET. Dr. Gerlinde Benninger, AFNET managing director, explains: In the new web presentation the ongoing projects, such as the EAST trial or the EORP AF registry, are described in detail. In this way we try to recruit new physicians and patients to participate in the EAST trial for example. The section Results comprises publications and therapy guidelines as well as reports about the consensus conferences. Furthermore, the website offers information about the Association Kompetenznetz Vorhofflimmern e.V. in which physicians and other AF professionals can contribute to the network.
The German Competence Network on Atrial Fibrillation (AFNET) is an interdisciplinary research network located in Germany. AFNET aims at improving care of patients with atrial fibrillation by promoting research, medical services and information in emerging diagnostic and therapeutic fields. The network has been funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research and Education since 2003.
As the public funding of AFNET is not in perpetuity, AFNET has founded the association Kompetenznetz Vorhofflimmern e.V. (AFNET e.V.), Münster, Germany, that will continue the network activities in the long term.
